Ajay Singh Deol (born 19 October 1956), better known by his stage name Sunny Deol, is an Indian actor, film director, producer, politician and current Member of Parliament for Gurdaspur (Lok Sabha constituency), Punjab, India. In Bollywood, he has earned a furious action hero image with starring roles in several blockbuster films including Ghayal, Jeet, Damini, Ghatak, Border and Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Deol won two National Film Awards and two Film Awards.
Deol made his debut alongside debut Amrita Singh in Betaab (1983) for which he was nominated for a Filmfare Best Actor Award. He then starred in a number of successful films in the 1980s and 1990s and was considered one of the top stars of the time.
For his portrayal of an amateur boxer wrongly accused of murdering his brother in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Ghayal in the 1990s, he received widespread acclaim and acclaim, winning Best Actor and a National Film Award – Special Jury Prize/Special Mention (Feature Film).
His portrayal of the lawyer in the film The Lightning (1993) earned him the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor and the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. Anil Sharma’s Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001), in which Deol portrays a truck driver who falls in love with a Pakistani Muslim girl, was the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time at the time of its release, earning an actor nomination for Filmfare Best Price.
Sunny Deol was born on October 19, 1956 in the village of Sahnewal, Punjab, India, to the Punjabi Jhat family of Bollywood actors Dharmendra and Parkash Kaur.
He has a younger brother, Bobby Deol, and two sisters, Vijayta and Ajeeta, who have settled in California. His stepmother is Hema Malini, through whom he has two half-sisters, actresses Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. His cousin Abhay Deol is also an actor.
Sunny Deol is married to Pooja Deol (aka Lynda Deol) and the couple have two sons, Karan and Rajveer. Karan was the assistant director of Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 and sang songs by Diljit Dosanjh in the film.  Karan Deol made her Bollywood debut with the Hindi feature film Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas. He tested positive for COVID-19 in Manali on December 1, 2020.
