Chelsea have moved to sign Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries with Sevilla’s Jules Kounde now expected to join Barcelona, according to the Evening Standard.
Chelsea revived their interest in Kounde following the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen to Real Madrid and Barcelona, respectively.
But Kounde’s desire to join Barcelona is looking increasingly likely to prove decisive.
However, Dumfries has been made available for transfer and it looks like Chelsea are ready to pounce after missing out on signing Kounde.
The Dutch wing-back could provide healthy competition for Reece James at right-wing-back in the Chelsea squad.
James has also been known to slot in at right centre-back.
Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, is keen to bolster his backline ahead of the new 2022/23 season.
